Este é um vigoroso debate entre dois académicos sobre o papel do Estado. Na 1ª parte do livro, Tibor R. Machan defende o Libertarianism [Liberalismo Clássico], enquanto Craig Duncan tenta demonstrar as suas falácias.

Numa 2ª parte, é a vez de Duncan apresentar como modelo ideal para a organização de um estado o Democratic Liberalism [algo próximo da Social-Democracia], enquanto que Machan tenta evidenciar o que para si é as "follies"(sic) do Democratic Liberalism.

A estrutura do livro quase que epistolar: composta por 6 ensaios acutilantes, que se sucedem em formato Pergunta-Resposta / Ataque-Defesa, torna a leitura muito agradável e dinâmica, propondo igualmente leituras complementares muito úteis.

Este é uma diálogo muito franco e aberto, mas acima de tudo confrontativo, coisa muito rara no nosso meio académico.
